Mixtape Review: Wiki & Your Old Droog – What Happened To Fire?
Review by Elliott Nielson
“What Happened To Fire?”…. asked Wiki and Your Old Droog. These New York City rappers represents what their city is in rap. Whilst delivering great quality hip hop they question where the good stuff is.
For those who don’t know these two they’ve been on a strong come up this side of the decade. Ratking’s Wiki gained popularity afte jumping on the That’s Not Me US Remix with Skepta featuring on Wiki’s debut-solo tape WIKI. Your Old Droog turning multiple heads and attracting the likes of Danny Brown for his new upcoming album PACKS.
What Happened to Fire? Delivers flaming bar after bar with their charismatic, almost sarcastic attitude to how they feel about rap today.
The project coincides with an art installation under the same name which ran a show that took place at the Romero Gallery in New Mexico late 2016. What Happened to Fire? was recorded at Wiki’s Chinatown apartment as the installation was being formulated and displayed. New York’s been quiet so far this year, hopefully this lights things up a little. With production from major names like Black Milk, Statik Selektah and AraabMUZIK you already know it’s going to be fire.
Keep an eye out for Droog’s next album PACKS dropping on March 10th.
