Syv – Knockin’

There’s two big reasons why the breakthrough single from UK twosome Syv should be thumping on your radar. Firstly, jackin’ house tastemaker Hannah Wants is backing it, and even opened her Mixtape 0915 with it. Secondly, it’s been put out by Black Butter Records who have an ear for devastating underground tracks as well as rampaging crossover success – think back to when Gorgon City and Rudimental were being pushed by the label as promising acts and look at them now!

‘Knockin’ falls squarely into the underground, sweaty-club side of BB’s output. A shape-shifting beast of a track, it starts out mellow and melodic before plunging into a weighty jungle of dense grooves and tribal percussion. Off-kilter hits hammer over a widescreen take on the 120bpm template which kicks through windows to position itself as one of the most exciting tracks to hit the floor in the last six months. That it is a debut effort from two 20-year-olds is even more impressive; keep close tabs on Syv.
