Review: Verb T – Good Evening (+ tour dates)
‘Good Evening’ is the TENTH album from the highly respected emcee and lyricist Verb T, which is out on High Focus Records. The album follows his 2015 release ‘The Man With The Foggy Eyes‘, and delivers a familiar sound from Verbs, as he teams up that changeable, deft flow with lyrics that are as metaphorical as they are personal.
Manchester based producer Pitch 92 works in an effective synergy with Verb T’s bars; offering jerky, tense piano and synth sounds where needed (e.g. on ‘Possession’) or party-ready jazz led vibes at other points (‘Break Limits’).
Lead single ‘Mechanical’ is bound to please his fans, making an arch, clever comment which could be a dig at almost anything; from society’s obsessions to the washed up masses of mainstream popular culture: “It’s understandable, living so mechanical, built by a company and they branded you.”
You can hear guest appearances on the album from a host of heavyweights – Ocean Wisdom, Jehst, DRS, Fliptrix, BVA, King Kashmere of Strange U, Sparkz, Black Josh, Rye Shabby, Confucious MC and Moreone.
