Review: Strange U – #2040 EP

Strange U, featuring well versed artist Kashmere, and producer Doctor Zygote.

Strange U first emerged on the scene back in 2012 with a 2013 release on Eglo records, and this is their second release, which has a dark and dingy yet very forward-thinking sound. Sci-fi themes, trippy imagery and video game references make up the lyrics, accompanied by ugly beats consisting of cold bassy synths and disorientating echo effects.

It’s psychedelic, grimy stuff that will get you screwing up your face and bobbing your head along. I was left pretty impressed by the whole thing. Its definitely one of the most creative hip hop records of the year.

The EP is set for release 16 Sept on Boot Records.
