North London grime star Shay D drops bombs with her new 14 track album ‘Speaking In Tongues’ which hit #7 in the iTunes chart following it’s release on August 6! Maybe is due to the fact that it reflects the essence of female strength by combining motivational lyrical content with melodic power, joining forces with well-known names like Money P, RoxXxane and Capo Lee.
From delivering youth workshops to delivering punchy tracks with vigour and energy, Shay D is breaking down the barriers and representing North London to the fullest!
Supported by big names across the board from BBC Radio 1Xtra, Kiss 100 and more, she has pushed the boundaries for females in hip-hop by leading female UK rap tours and was one of the main acts an all female line up event we put on in 2014.
The essence of Speaking In Tongues has a powerful, potent punch by setting the record straight with who she is and at what level she is at. with menacing tracks such as Talk Of The Town and Slice Of Pie featuring P Money. The EP reveals a combination of confidence and a can-do attitude, recognising the struggles in discovering success in ‘Dreams’ and accepting self-love in ‘#Nomakeupday’.
The EP is nothing short of organised, beginning with the highs of bouncy beats and motivational messages and ending with some hard and emotional truths, rather than scattering her feelings sporadically. Shay D knew how she wanted to reel listeners in with her energetic and powerful intro and how she was going to keep them listening with her honest and vulnerable outro.
Speaking In Tongues is a no-mess and no-fuss kind of project, as every word is delivered with conviction. Shay D pushes the boundaries with her fiery and confident conveyance. However, she knows how to let her guard down by confessing when she has fallen victim by “peeling back the layers” with tracks such as Rain On Me.
Her craft is percussive, inspiring and innovative. She paints a vivid picture for the youth of today by not only encouraging self-love, but encouraging motivation for eradicating self-doubt and procrastination when achieving success.
Speaking on the album, Shay says: “It’s taken TIME, stopping coz of the myth of 2020, deciding what I was even doing, then remembering the true purpose of why I even do this.. because music was FUN. It was a way out. The reason for creating music is supposed to be “because I want to, because I can’t NOT do it.” SO, I done it, you know. This album is all sides of me, there’s songs for everyone to relate to. There’s girl power anthems, hardbody rap, break up songs, positive tunes, party tunes, songs for drives, gym, flirty songs, deep ones, songs ‘bout losing people, reality checks & love.. I even sang on this album. I wanted to enjoy the process, especially creating vibes collaborating with artists I rate.”
