Review: Maryann – This Is What The Moon Sounds Like
Up-and-coming Calif R&B artist Maryann AKA ‘bae god’, drops this spacey EP, featuring some truly hypnotic vocals that alternate between smooth and sexy singing and staccato trap-inspired singing-rapping crossover.
Backing her up is some vast instrumentation courtesy of producer Sbvce, consisting of soaring synths and textured 808 percussion. It’s an impressive debut with a real futuristic feel to it, reinforced by robotic vocal effects and cosmic lyrical imagery. More impressive is the fact that this is a DIY record and not some big bucks production. Maryann has prescribed the term ‘bedroom trap’ to her sound.
