MOBO Awards 2014 – The run down
Hosted at Wembley, The 2014 MOBO (music of black origin) awards consisted of a mixed bag to say the least…! Sam Smith and Krept & Konan stole the show and smashed it with their winning-streaks!! Firecracker Jessie J opened the show literally in flames, giving an almost lung exploding belter.
Continuing the ceremony was Jess Glynn with Gorgon City, as well as MNEK, Professor Green & Tori Kelly and Ella Eyre who all did visually stunning sets, not to mention a very unpredictable collaboration being Little Simz and Candi Staton. It was brilliant to see a seasoned lady of music linking with a soon-to-blow femcee like Simz! Different generations coming together on one stage and both equally owning it.
2014 was the overdue year came for Grime to be represented, and 1xtra presented the awards, and opened the vote to the fans, who went with Stormzy, who’s had a hell of a year!
Grime seemed to dominate later in the show though, with a strong live appearance from Stormzy, and Skepta – as he insisted “my cost me 80 English Pounds!!!”)
Meridan Dan’s live collab with Fekky was certainly an eye opener, but Krept & Konan’s powerful performances of ‘Dont Waste My Time’ was the best rap performance that night!
Here’s the run down of the winners on the night!!!
