Formidable Leeds pairing Mak & Pasteman are keeping things straight and to the point on recent four-to-the-floor destroyer ‘Tempest’. Currently doing the rounds in the record bags and on the radio shows of the scene’s finest (e.g. Roska’s Rinse FM show), the track is a perfect example of the grey area between house and techno within which the production duo have built their stronghold.

Driven by deliciously flabby live-sounding drums, the track blooms into life with a prowling bassline with a satisfying squelch lurking beneath its blunt-force attack. Chopped vocal samples add depth to what is a ludicrously on-point tune, which more than manages to live up to its name.
