Kate Tempest makes UK hip-hop history on Newsnight

Kate Tempest might have made UK hip hop history recently when she appeared on BBC’s widely respected ‘Newsnight’ show, to perform her piece ‘Tunnel Vision’, in the most emphatic way she knows how. Tempest, who has been twice nominated for a Mercury Prize, stirred up Daily Mail and Express headlines of contempt with her bottom-up rhetoric – another accolade for the 31 year old rapper, poet, author and playwright.

The song, which closed her most recent album ‘Let them eat chaos’  from 2016, lays into modern lifestyles in the UK and our choice to go about our lives without helping other less fortunate parts of the world- “Totting up our victories as other people’s losses”. You can listen to the whole album on Spotify, and watch the Newsnight performance now –
