J Cole has teamed up with fellow North Carolina rapper-director Mez for this bold new music video for the single ‘Middle Child’ which sees him deliver the lyrically potency that we have come to expect and love from the Dreamville legend.
The track addresses money, image and black culture whilst asserting J Cole’s lyrical prowess as an artist not to be targeted in the cross-hairs of musical beef. In the video, rapper heads mounted like trophy kills decorate the wall of a rustic log cabin as a mud-covered Bentley drifts across a dirt track. Epic brass chords hit hard, as light flashes against dark backdrops creating a serious vibe whilst a provocative nod to the commodification of black culture reinforces the darker undertones of the track.
