West London’s finest grime artist Scrufizzer has been there and done it: shelled down countless radio set and live stages, big name label releases and collabs with some real UK legends. 2017 has been no different, with his ‘Tropical Vybes EP’ marking an independent mindset as it was released on his own ‘Stay Fizzy’ label. Following our last interview with him from way back in 2011, we spoke to him about how his 2017 has progressed, what he learnt from his time in USA and what the fans can expect next year! Don’t forget you can catch Scrufizzer live at our 10th anniversary show in December.
From the looks of it, this year has been pretty successful for Scrufizzer! What have been your highlights of 2017?
I’m really happy about how things have panned out, at the beginning of year I set myself a handful of goals and I can honestly say it’s an amazing feeling to know I reached all my targets. My life feels like a movie, I mean everyday there’s a new adventure, I actually love it. In terms of my personal highlights I’d have to say Wild Life Festival was incredible (as it always is) also I have an upcoming show over in Sweden in December followed by a headline Scrufizzer and Friends show at Birthdays in London.
Following your time in USA what are the 3 most important things you learnt about how their music industry operates compared to ours?
To be honest, it’s all the time. I think we have a reached a moment in time where the internet has enabled us to be connected to so many different things. I would say the work ethic out in the US is different to London, but in the same breath I’ve met people that have been just as active with recording etc. I love going out there as it’s a great opportunity for me to learn more about the musical styles that my American counterparts use, I love learning about genres and music in other countries as it allows me to evolve my own sound.
Tell me about your work with Deezer and how does it feel to know that such a reputable brand are backing your movements?
It’s amazing thing to have a big brand like Deezer being apart of my journey. They reached out to me and we made a plan, and then executed it. In the near future who knows what Scrufizzer and Deezer might come up with. It’s a very exciting time, I am very grateful to be working with them. I think it’s important for brands such as Deezer to support underground and commercial music as it gives up-and-coming, as well as established, artists the chance to promote themselves.
What can Scrufizzer fans expect from you in 2018?
More music, more videos, more vibes. I can honestly say I have tonnes of music, maybe thousands lol, that’s in the line up for release. Scrufizzer EP’s dropping next year. Also I have a smasher with Stimpy entitled ‘Need You’, look out for that! DATSRIGHT!
