EP Review: Jamar Carr – Hidden Jewels: The New York Diaries EP

In Hip Hop by Nick Russell

Queens, NY rapper Jamar Carr is not a name you maybe familiar with, but hopefully this project will change that! From start to finish across the four tracks, he keeps it really real with his gritty and lyrical approach to rapping. On the opening track he goes straight in with the existential lyrics, reflecting on the harder sides of life. Throughout the project Carr continues to bring that conscious reality rap we’ve come to love from New York. Flow patterns are on point and he keeps his delivery steady.

You can tell he’s inspired by the likes of Dave East, Ransom, Cormega and Mobb Deep which is definitely a welcome sound if that’s your thing. Also check out his previous project ‘Politically incorrect: Wealth in the ghetto’.
