Dexta – Minirave / The Bunker
When I reached out to Dexta on Twitter to let him know how on point I think this record is, he replied that he “wasn’t sure that D&B people would approve.” True, these tracks aren’t straight-up 170bpm amen breaks, but if you have beef with Dexta’s output here you have beef with jungle, and if you have beef with jungle then you’ve not quite got your head around drum & bass just yet. This latest one is out now on None60.
Dexta – Minirave / Dexta and Gaunt – The Bunker
‘Minirave’ does exactly what it says on the tin, whipping up a storm straight from the 90s hardcore rave scene before pulling the rug straight out from under your feet with a jungle switch-up which is pure gold.
Dexta buddies up with Gaunt for ‘The Bunker’ on the flip, which ratchets the tempo up slightly for a 165bpm stomper. A gutteral bassline sputters into deep kicks and plummeting stabs, while crisp percussion provides momentum and space on top.
Buy the record and you’re rewarded with a free download of Dexta’s VIP of Gaunt’s ‘Piranha’, which is flipped into shape with an elasticated bassline operating strictly on half-time.
Buy from None60’s Bandcamp page and from all the usual outlets.
