Chip is set to be headline at The Roundhouse’s ‘In The Round’ concert series, in Camden Town, London in early February. The event series which kicked off in 2016, runs from January 31 – February 10 this year, and sees the spectacular venue transformed with a fully-seated concert set up. Chip’s headline appearance marks ten years (almost to the day) since the release of his breakthrough mixtape ‘League Of My Own’, a landmark project which saw him set the levels for big things to come.
One of the most successful and accomplished names in the UK’s grime and hip hop scene, Chip is no stranger to the bright lights, establishing a global audience before he hit adulthood! The Tottenham raised artist can boast a run of accolades including three MOBO Awards, several hit singles and collaborations with everyone from Skepta, Wiley and Stormzy to Chris Brown, T.I and Mavado! Chip released his third album, the critically acclaimed League of my Own II in August last year, with the Guardian describing how “The strength of his bars and delivery is impressive”.
The fact he’s still as relevant in grime as he was back then is testament to his artistic integrity and lyrical prowess, with many of his contemporaries no longer active or taking a less prominent position. Anyone who’s watched grime ascend would agree that Chip is undoubtedly one of the artists who helped the culture to reach it’s current wave of global recognition, and with his own label Cash Motto taking charge of things, 2018 is looking prosperous. “I lost it for a while,” he says, “between all the different transitions I made through music, in terms of learning about different sounds, different genres. But now, I’ve got that excitement again. I’m ready.”
