Audio: Mako, Villem & Mcleod – Inner Revolution
Remember when Vanilla Ice told us all to “Stop, collaborate and listen” way back in 1989? The boys from the Utopia Music family took two thirds of that noble statement to heart, operating in a constant state of frantic collaboration with new music never far from the speakers.
But stop? Never, and that’s a good thing. For the label’s first release of 2015, head honcho Mako teams up with established studio partner Villem, and invites East Anglian producer and Villem’s serial associate Mcleod to make the trip to Utopia’s Bristol home.
The result is the meticulously crafted roller ‘Inner Revolution’, and the production pedigree of its three creators is crystal clear, from the snap of the snare to the elegant keys and weighty sub; it’s no surprise Villem and Mcleod’s sample pack was snapped up by the production community.
This is liquid in all its transcendent glory, a soundscape in which to lose to yourself which more than lives up to the name of the imprint which houses it. ‘Inner Revolution’ (UM017A) is out now on Utopia Music, with ‘Borrowed Love’ (UM017AA) on the flip.
